Frequently Asked Questions
Many people feel somewhat apprehensive about the idea of hypnosis and its uses. In the past, the majority of the population had been basing their opinions and/or skepticism primarily on limited knowledge of hypnotism, such as stage hypnosis practices or things seen in movies. Although some aspects are the same or similar, these stage performers have sometimes humorous methods and concepts, and are for entertainment value. Now that hypnosis has become much more mainstream, the public is becoming more aware, more interested and more educated about the extensive beneficial solutions it can offer to everyday people.
Here are some common questions and possible misconceptions that you may be curious about . . .
"Will I be asleep or unconscious during the hypnosis session?"
No. You will be fully awake, but at a very relaxed and heightened state of awareness in the subconscious mind. Many clients describe it as being similar to some forms of progressive relaxation methods or meditation.
"Can a hypnotist make me do or say things that I don't want to do?"
No. Contrary to what the entertainment industry often portrays, you cannot be forced nor coerced to do anything against your will, or beyond your own personal ethical boundaries.
** In addition: All reputable ,Nationally Certified Hypnotists (myself included) must also adhere to very specific ethical codes and guidelines, or their certification can be subject to review and revocation.
"How does hypnosis work?"
Hypnosis is a structured and guided technique, in which you allow your subconscious mind to accept new ideas, and believe a desired result or outcome to be true. This method of training the subconscious mind temporarily bypasses the analytical, conscious mind. The process can improve moods, behaviors, and perceptions, which promotes great success in creating realistic, positive changes in your life.
"Can anyone be hypnotized?"
There is a very small percentage of people that indeed cannot be successfully hypnotized. Typically these exceptions are due to either age-related limitations or medically diagnosed, severe psychological disorders.
"Is hypnosis safe, or are there any safety concerns or side effects that I should be made aware of?"
Hypnosis is a very safe process and has been practiced for hundreds of years in many cultures. Modern methods of hypnosis are always evolving and have been virtually perfected over the last hundred years. It is certainly recommended that you only allow a qualified, certified hypnosis professional that has the highest level of safety in mind. For that reason, I do require disclosure of any medical conditions for which a client is currently receiving medical attention. Certain conditions will require signed authorization from your medical physician or psychological therapy professional.
"How will I know that I have been hypnotized?"
Not everyone has the same experiences, sensations, or emotions during a session, but here are a few of the more *common ones:
*Feelings of numbness or tingling in the hands & feet.
*Feelings of either weightlessness, severe heaviness, or immobility.
*Floating sensations in limbs or entire body.
*Twitching or slight jerking of parts of the body.
*Daydreaming. (highly encouraged, as you do not need to fully focus on my words)
*Excessive swallowing.
*Heightened emotions.
*Snoring (but awake).
These sensations and others can come and go, and sometimes change throughout the session. There are a few other things like eye movement that I will be observing during the session as well. Rest assured that when the session has been completed, these will subside and you will feel relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated! We'll chat for a few more minutes after the session and make sure that you are indeed alert and ready to safely depart.
"How many sessions will it take to be successful?"
There are many variables that can determine how many sessions will be needed. Your level of motivation, desire, and determination certainly play a part. Other important factors to consider are your willingness and ability to stay positive and open-minded, as well as the types of changes you are seeking. The length of time that your behaviors have been occurring, sometimes affect the need for additional sessions, but each case is different. If it is determined that additional sessions (for the same behavior) will be needed, those sessions may be provided at a reduced cost.
"Can someone else be present during my session?"
Regardless of how comfortable you may feel you will be with certain other parties present, it is neither common practice nor advised. Any possible reactions or interactions from outside parties during a session, can be far too distracting to allow for a successful session. In the case of child clients (minors), or others insistent on this, I will only allow someone to be present during the preliminary intake portion of your appointment. I do have a waiting area, but no children are permitted to attend unless they are here for a session. At this time, I do not record video or audio of my sessions, but may do so in the future. In that event, the client (and parent/guardian if applicable) will be notified prior to the sessions. These would only be used for my own personal viewing and not ever shown publicly, nor reproduced, without prior authorizations.
"Do your rates vary depending on what the session is for, or is it an hourly rate?"
No. Initial intake appointments from start to finish, typically take somewhere between 90 minutes to 2 hours max. Additional sessions thereafter, for the same behavioral change typically can be 45mins. to an hour. My session rates do not vary based on time needed per session, because these time frames are estimates only.
My rates are currently @ $125.00 per session, or offered in discounted pre-paid packages (same one client only) at these rates:
3-sessions for $333.00 total
6-sessions for $630.00 total
10-sessions for $925.00 total
"Will I remember my hypnosis session?"
Yes. You will gradually remember some parts of the session, but likely not every detailed word (verbatim). That is not only unnecessary, but also could be detrimental to your complete success in the process. Our goal is to make changes in the subconscious mind, while your conscious mind may create unwanted blocks or doubts.
I could not possibly list every question that may come to mind, so please feel free to call and ask any further questions. I am happy to inform and educate anyone who is compelled to ask questions, or has specific concerns to address.
